For developments providing accommodation such residential, hotel and aged care facilities, there are requirements to control of external and internal noise intrusion and acoustic separation between spaces. The requirements include clients’ specifications, Building Code of Australia and other Government Agencies.
For commercial and office developments, the acoustic requirements are usually the clients’ specifications and/or relevant standards.
The sources of noise intrusion vary, but commonly include road traffic, rail traffic, aircraft, entertainment and sporting facilities, mechanical plant from nearby industries and commerce and mechanical plant from the developments themselves.
The control of building acoustics usually relates to the design of building façade noise reductions, control of noise and vibration from hydraulic and mechanical plant and services, appropriate acoustic performances for building partitions (walls, floors, windows, doors, etc.,) and surface finishes to control reverberation.
It is necessary to address the acoustic issues during project development application, design development, construction and commissioning phases. Typical projects requiring consideration of building acoustics include:
· Hotel developments
· Residential developments
· Aged care facilities
· Commercial buildings
· Commercial office fit-outs
· Meeting rooms
· Boardrooms
